GABS 2024

The German-American Business Summit is the perfect opportunity to recruit new talent from community colleges and Universities in the Lowcountry, discuss and explore issues pertinent to German-American industry, and also network with other businesses and influencers in higher education. Now in its 3rd iteration, the summit consists of a 2-hour job fair, a conference on topics in German-American industry, and a reception for participants from industry and the community and educators. This year, support from the German Embassy’s Deutschlandjahr 2018/19 has made it possible to move the summit to a larger venue, the Gaillard Conference center two blocks from the College of Charleston. The College of Charleston German program, Career Center, School of Business, and School of Languages, Cultures and World affairs are hosting the event in partnership with The Citadel, Trident Technical College, and the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southeastern United States.

Job Fair 11:30am-1:30pm
Companies have the opportunity to recruit students from the College of Charleston, The Citadel, at Trident Technical College, along with nd Universities throughout the region who are interested in jobs, internships, and apprenticeships in German-American industry. Last year, 280 students from seven different universities attended the event.

Conference 1:30-5:30pm
The conference will consist of a keynote presentation by Ruth Gratzke, enior Vice President and Head of Product and Systems Sales (PSS) at Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI), a panel discussion on Digital Transformation sponsored by CofC’s new Systems Engineering Program, and a panel discussion on the role of “big data” in German-American Industry.

Reception: 6pm: Hosted by Mercedes-Benz Vans
A reception for educators and administrators and guests from industry, and a chance to network and make lasting connections in industry and build bridges with our educational institutions.
