Governance
Chartered by the State of South Carolina in 1970 as a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation, the College of Charleston Foundation, Inc. is governed by a 32-member Board of Directors.
As a 509 (a) (3), Type III, functionally integrated Supporting Organization, the College of Charleston Foundation follows an interdependent model of working with the College of Charleston. Key members of executive leadership for the College serve as ex-officio non-voting members of the Foundation Board of Directors.
There are two major committees of the board, the Executive and the Investment committees. It is the Investment Committee that is charged with monitoring the investment performance of the portfolio. It meets with the investment consultant on a quarterly basis to review and discuss portfolio performance, which includes a thorough review of market conditions, manager performance, asset allocation and any other situations that may impact the ability of the portfolio to perform as expected. The Board of Directors reviews recommendations from the Investment Committee and makes final decisions regarding the Investment Policy.
