Parent Advisory Council
The Parent Advisory Council's aim is to support the general goals and purposes of the College of Charleston, as well as its highest priorities, and to foster bonds with parents of students and alumni. The council acts both as a fundraising committee and as a forum for the exchange of information concerning the activities and programs of the College as a whole. The council provides an opportunity to support events and activities, which enhance the college experience for students and families and help to strengthen the institution’s financial foundation.

Membership
The president of the College appoints members to the council chosen from relatives of current and former students. Members are also asked to make personal recommendations for membership. Terms for current parents coincide with their College of Charleston student’s full-time enrollment, while parents of alumni are asked to serve two-year terms. Parent Advisory Council members are asked to:
- Support the College of Charleston Fund at the 1770 Society leadership level with a gift of $1,500 or more.
- Attend council Meetings and serve on one sub-committee.
- Contact five to 10 parents for leadership gifts.
- Become familiar with academics, admissions, career development, financial aid, special events and student life.
- Serve as an advisor to the president on issues deemed important by parents, the College and the community.
- Provide a source of wisdom and support for the College. (This is not a policy-making group.)
Meeting Schedule
It is important that members of the council be well-informed concerning all College activities so that they may serve as effective spokespersons and advocates for the College. To help accomplish this, the council meets twice each year – once in the fall and once in the spring, prior to final exams. The fall 2009 meeting will be October 2-3, 2009. The spring 2010 meeting dates will be announced as soon as they are available.
